Upvas | Vrat |Fasting is a part of Hindu Culture and is observed mainly during Navratri , Maha Shivratri , Ekadashi , Chaturthi and Shasti .
During the fast, one should abstain from normal foodgrain, but one can have fruits, milk, tea, coffee, makhanna , potatoes ,raw banana ,sabudana and atta such as kuttu , singhara , rajgira atta and special rice like samai. Instead of regular table salt, sendha salt or rock salt is used for cooking. But every region and families have their own recipes , do’s and don’ts during fasting .
