Instant Oats Idli - is a easy breakfast made from coarsely powdered oats and curds without fermentation.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Oats
  • 1/2 cup Fine Sooji
  • 3/4 Tsp Salt or as required
  • 1/4 Tsp Asafoetidia
  • 1/2 Tsp Cooking soda
  • 1 small carrot grated
  • 1 green chilly finely chopped
  • 2 Tbsp Coriander leaves finely chopped
  • 1 Sprig Curry leaves ,finely chopped
  • 1/2 inch Ginger grated
  • 3/4 cup sour curds
  • 3/4 cup water
For Tempering
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 Tbsp Channa Dal
  • 1/2 Tbsp Urad Dal
  • 1 Tbsp Cashew Pieces
Instructions
  1. Grind 1 cup oats into a coarse powder and keep it aside.

  2. Heat 1 Tbsp oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.

  3. Add chana dal, Urad dal and broken cashew pieces and fry well , till it starts to brown lightly.

  4. Add ½ cup fine sooji/rava and fry well for 2-3 minutes on a medium heat.

  5. Add oats powder and continue to fry along with sooji for another 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat.

  6. Add ¼ Tsp Asafoetida, ¾ Tsp salt and ½ tsp Baking Soda (cooking soda) and mix well.

  7. Add chopped coriander leaves, curry leaves, green chillies, grated carrot, and grated ginger and mix well. 

  8. Add ¾ cup water and ¾ whisked curds mix well and allow it to sit for 15 minutes.

  9. Mean while, grease the Idli plates and boil the water in steamer / pressure cooker/idli maker.

  10. Using ladle, Pour ¾ of idli batter into the idli moulds, and place in steamer /pressure cooker /idli maker.

  11. Cook for 12 minutes and give a resting time of 5 minutes.

  12. Remove the idlis and serve hot with Coconut chutney ,sambar or Bombay saagu

Step By Step Directions on making of Instant Oats Idly:

Add ½ cup fine sooji/rava and fry well for 2-3 minutes on a medium heat.

Add ¼ Tsp Asafoetida/hing , ¾ Tsp salt and ½ tsp Baking Soda (cooking soda) and mix well.

Add chopped coriander leaves, curry leaves, green chillies, grated carrot, and grated ginger and mix well.

Add ¾ cup water and ¾ whisked curds mix well and allow it to sit for 15 minutes.

Mean while, grease the Idly moulds and boil the water in steamer / pressure cooker/idly maker.

Using ladle, Pour ¾ of idly batter into the idly moulds, and place in steamer /pressure cooker /idly maker.

Cook for 12 minutes ,turn off the heat.Give a resting time of 5 minutes and then remove idlis.
