Instant Modak recipe with step by step images and video. Instant Modak is a quick modak recipe made with milk powder , sugar and dry fruits.

This post shares a version of mawa modak where instant mawa is prepared using milk powder and shaped into modak using moulds. Dry fruits and nuts are also stuffed inside this modak .

    Instant Mawa Modak

Varities of modak are offered to Lord Ganesha and then distributed among devottees as prashad. As Ganapathi Bappa is fond of Modak , HE is also called modakpriya ( one who loves modak) and is offered to him . Of all varities of modak Ukadiche Modak / Steamed Modak is considered as a classic version of modak.

    What is Modak ?

Modak is a Classic Indian Sweet popular in Maharashtra , regions of Konkan and Karnataka. Generally Modak has sweet filling inside made from freshly grated coconut and jaggery,  while the outer soft shell is made from rice flour or wheat flour mixed with mawa or refined flour. Then modak can be steamed or fried. The steamed version of modak is called ukdiche modak is often eaten hot with ghee . I have already shared the post on Ukadiche Modak , yoy can refer if needed,

But Instant Modak or Mawa Modak is made with khova/ mawa. You can make mawa at home or can use store brought Mawa. In my last post I had shared a Mawa Peda recipe , you can follow the same recipe and shape in Modak moulds to get mawa modak.

Incase if you are looking for a recipe to make a quick modak , then believe me this post is for you. This modak is made from milk powder , milk and for sweet filling , some dry fruits and nuts are used. Its quick and easy, from start to finish I just took 20 minutes to put up this sweet instant Modak with dry fruits filling.

Tips and Variations to make Instant Modak

    • Filling : Dry fruits & nuts , Coconut-Jaggery , Sesame seeds, dry coconut, jaggery, peanuts-jaagery , choco chips and nuts , Gulkand and dry coconut so on , you can go creative and make any filling of your choice. Just make sure to adjust and match the sweetness with the outer cover also.
    • Outer Cover : Instant Milk powder mawa as used in this recipe or store brought / homemade fresh mawa
    • Saffron milk is used here to give yellowish colour but you can choose to add any food colour ( I don't use artifical colours) of your choice or turmeric powder should also be fine here as an alternative .
    • Milk powder already has sweetness with it , so 2-3 tablespoon of powdered sugar will be sufficient . In case if the filling is having more sweetness then do adjust sweetness accordingly.

    Notes

    • I have used Nestle , Everyday dairy whitener in this recipe .

    • For filling I added raisins, cranberries , pistachios, almonds and cahews. So sweetness from raisins and cranberries were also added.
    • As my molds are large , this recipe yielded 10 -11 large Modak's , you can double the recipe measurement to make 21 modak's
