    Bread Upma Recipe

    Bread Upma is a easy and tasty snack than can be prepared within 30 minutes. Pre cut ,Bread slices into bite size cubes and saute in oil with vegetables and spices . Either fresh bread or day old bread works well for this bread Upma. If kids are bored with regular bread recipes then try this desi version of bread preparation, which will surely be a hit.

    Bread Upma Recipe

    I often squeeze in time to bake fresh loaf of whole wheat bread at home . But these days , I have gone extremely busy with too many work assignments and running short of time. Hence brought freshly baked whole wheat bread from stores . I'm not at all a bread lover but my lil boy is different , so at least once in a week , either I bake bread or get it from stores. Every time , it happens so that 1 loaf of bread lasts for 2-3 days. First day it's going to be either Bread Egg Toast or Cheese Sandwiches, followed by Bread Upma or Masala Bread Toast for next day evening snack.

    Try using Whole Wheat Bread for any of your bread based recipes . Please cutdown refined flours from your diet as much as possible. Also cultivate clean eating habits , bread is full of carbohydrates , just add in more veggies, eggs ,paneer , cheese and prepare a balanced food.

    Ingredients 

    • 6 no Wholewheat Bread Slices
    • 1 no Onion Medium Size , roughly chopped
    • 1" inch Ginger , grated
    • 2 no Tomatoes Medium Size , roughly chopped
    • 1 no Green Chilli, chopped
    • 1-2 Sprigs Curry Leaves
    • 1 tablespoon Coriander Leaves
    • 1-1.5 teaspoon Lime Juice , freshly squeezed
    • 2 tablespoon Cooking Oil
    • ½ teaspoon Mustard Seeds
    • ¼ teaspoon Jeera Seeds
    • 1 pinch Asafoetida
    • ½ teaspoon Red Chilli Powdre
    • ½-3/4 teaspoon Salt or as required

    Instructions

    Preparations

    • Take 6 bread slices and cut into cubes . If bread is soft , then no need to trim the edges of bread , only if it is hard then remove the edges.
    • Roughly chop 1 medium size onion and 2 Tomatoes . Finely chop green chillies and coriander leaves .Grate ginger and set it aside.

    Method:

    • Take a pan , add 2 tablespoon of oil and heat.
    • Once oil is hot , add mustard seeds , let it splutter.
    • Now add jeera /cumin seeds , once it starts to change colour add curry leaves, green chillies.
    • Add roughly chopped onions, turmeric powder and saute well , till it turns translucent.
    • Add in grated ginger and saute for a minute.
    • Now add in chopped tomatoes and saute for 1-2 minutes.
    • Add chilli powder , salt and asafoetida , mix well everything.
    • Continue to cook till tomatoes turns soft.
    • Now add bread cubes and mix well everything. Cook for 5 minutes. If bread is very dry then sprinkle 1 teaspoon of water .
    • Finally add chopped coriander leaves and squeeze in fresh lime juice.
    • Serve hot with Masala Chai.

    Step by step directions on making of Bread Upma :
