    What is Shakshuka?

Egg shakshuka is a simple dish of gently poached eggs in a tasty mixture of simmering tomatoes and pepper sauce. Shakshuka is a popular Middle Eastern and North African dish . Its easy to make and can be served even for Lunch or dinner. Shakshuka is best served immediately.

    How to make Shakshuka

To make a Shakshuka Recipe , make sure to use well ripened tomatoes . Also bell peppers used in this recipe adds little crunchiness to the tomato sauce. I have used Red Bell peppers in the recipe but you can use Green coloured Bell pepper as well.

For spices , red chilli powder , Jeera/ cumin powder and black pepper powder adds heat . I consider adding about ½ teaspoon of sugar in my recipe , as it balances out the tanginess and all flavours meld together. Also I usually add 1 tablespoon of Tomato Sauce which is purely optional , you can skip if you dont wish.

In case if you don't like poached eggs or runny eggs then you can continue to cook eggs covered for further more minutes , till egg reaches your prefered texture. Also as an alternative , you can fry eggs or scramble eggs and add into hearty spiced tomato pepper sauce. It tastes delicious either the way.

    Equipment's Used

While making Shakshuka , you can either consider making in well seasoned iron cast skillet or heavy bottom non stick pan. Only well seasoned Iron cast work well in this recipe. Though I made this recipe in a iron cast , I never prefer to cook any acidic food in iron cast skillet as it may leave some tinny flavour to the dish. Stainless steel or non stick pans will works well for this recipe.
