Rava Ladoo | Rave Unde is one of the most easiest sweet recipe to prepare at home. Unde in kannada refers to spherical /round shape. As this sweet dish is made with sooji (rava) , it is Rava Ladoo. No expertise is needed to prepare this sweet , it’s a beginner level dessert with minimal ingredients . This sweet is quite common during festivals like Diwali , Janmashtami and Varamahalakshmi .

This recipe is very easy and simple. No condensed milk or No sugar syrup, it’s a most basic recipe with only sooji , coconut , sugar and ghee as main ingredients. Use only medium or fine Sooji to make this ladoo . To make a delicious rava ladoo , firstly roast sooji with a tsp of ghee till fragrant . Use a good quality home made desi ghee to make any Indian Sweets , it gives nice aroma and taste to the dish. Also fresh grated coconut is used here , you can use dessicated coconut too. Ghee / clarified butter is used to bind the ladoo . Also 1-2 tbsp of warm milk can also be sprinkled to bind ladoo’s. Though adding milk is optional , as it is easy to bind , I use it.

I made this rava ladoo on the occasion of Varamahalakshmi festival . For me this festival is associated with a friend of mine – Sowmya . Her divinity , faith and religious belief for this particular festival made me to follow and pray Goddess Lakshmi on this day . Though she is 1000 miles away from me, I remember her and do all sweets and savouries on this day .

Tasty and Delicious Indian Sweet made with Semolina , Sugar ,Coconut , Clarified butter and nuts

Ingredients
  • 1 1/4 Cup Medium or Fine Sooji
  • 1/4 Cup Clarified Butter / Desi Ghee
  • 2/3 Cup Sugar
  • 5-6 pods Green Cardamom
  • 1/3 cup Fresh Coconut Grated
  • 1 Tbsp Raisins or as required
  • 1 Tbsp Cashews pieces or as required
  • 2 Tbsp Warm Milk , optional
Instructions
  1. Take 2/3 or 3/4 cup sugar in a mixer ,add cardamom pods and blend to a fine powder. Set it aside till use.

  2. Heat 2 Tbsp of Ghee on a thick bottom pan , add raisins fry well till golden brown and remove .

  3. Add in cashew pieces and fry till golden brown , remove and set aside for later use.

  4. In the same pan , add 1 1 /4 cup of sooji and fry on a low to medium heat till rava grains looks separated.

  5. Now add in fresh grated coconut to roast rava and continue to roast on a low heat , till aroma wafts.

  6. Now add in powdered sugar to the rava/ sooji mixture and mix well.

  7. Add fried cashews and raisins and mix well.

  8. Turn off the heat,

  9. Add ghee part by part to the rava mixture and mix it well.

  10. Sprinkle milk , mix with sooji mixture .Take handful of sooji mixture and bind together like a ball to form ladoos of desired size.

  11. Store in an airtight box and serve as needed.

Step by step directions for making Rava Ladoo:

Take 2/3 or 3/4 cup sugar in a mixer ,add cardamom pods.

Blend to a fine powder. Set it aside till use.

Heat 2 Tbsp of Ghee on a thick bottom pan , add raisins fry well till golden brown and remove .

Add in cashew pieces and fry till golden brown , remove and set aside for later use.

In the same pan , add 1 1 /4 cup of sooji and fry on a low to medium heat .

Rava grains should look separated.

Now add in fresh grated coconut to roast rava and continue to roast on a low heat , till aroma wafts.

It looks grainy and entire kitchen fills with aroma of fresh coconut with rava.

Now turn the flame to very low heat , keep on simmer. Add in powdered sugar to the rava/ sooji mixture and mix well.

Add fried cashews and raisins and mix well.

Turn off the heat. Add ghee part by part to the rava mixture .

Mix well .

Sprinkle milk , mix with sooji mixture. Milk is optional , you can even skip this .

Take handful of sooji mixture .

Bind together like a ball to form ladoos of desired size.

Store in an airtight box and serve as needed.
